The Green Revolution Revisited

Introduction It is a great pleasure to be here in Oslo, nearly 30 years after I was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. I wish to thank the Norwegian Nobel Institute and the U.S. Embassy in Norway for arranging this lecture. Today, I am here to take stock of the contributions of the so-called “Green Revolution,” and explore the role of science and technology in the coming decades to improve the quan...

Distant future of the Sun and Earth revisited

We revisit the distant future of the Sun and the Solar system, based on stellar models computed with a thoroughly tested evolution code. For the solar giant stages, mass loss by the cool (but not dust-driven) wind is considered in detail. Using the new and well-calibrated mass-loss formula of Schröder & Cuntz, we find that the mass lost by the Sun as a red giant branch (RGB) giant (0.332 M , 7....

The Bimodality of Unique Green Revisited

Unique green measurements were obtained from 50 females and 50 males under eight different experimental conditions. Combinations of two different test sizes (0.25 and 1.0 deg) and four different background fields (none, 62.5, 250, and 1000 td) comprised the experimental conditions under which unique green measurements were made. Group and gender frequency distributions of the unique green loci ...

Cognitive Metaphor Theory Revisited

This paper provides a framework which, being compatible with Lakoff and Johnson’s theory (1980), allows a description of metaphoric verbal utterances. The development of this theoretical expansion is encouraged by Lakoff and Johnson’s distinction between nonliteral and literal metaphoric expressions, and by the fact that they do not provide an explanation of the nonliteral metaphoric use of exp...

Herman's Theory Revisited

We prove that a C 2+α-smooth orientation-preserving circle diffeomorphism with rotation number in Diophantine class D δ , 0 < δ < α ≤ 1, is C 1+α−δ-smoothly conjugate to a rigid rotation. We also derive the most precise version of Denjoy's inequality for such diffeomorphisms.
